Carbide tipped tooling is the step between solid carbide and high speed steel (HSS). It combines longer tool life with less expensive materials, they become especially cost effective in large diameters. The major drawback for carbide tipped tools is lack of geometry. These are simple straight edge tools, so chip evacuation and finish are not always desirable.
